It’s Jacket Season in Paris! Here’s What I’m Seeing.

I’ve been in Paris the last few days, taking in the sights (and style!), and doing some research for next year’s Paris Fashion Tour. The weather has been mild, with cool fall days, some clouds, and almost no rain. I’ll share more fall style notes from Paris soon, but the jackets have really caught my eye — from classic trenches to suede bombers. Here’s a quick roundup of the styles I’ve been spotting.

Trenches: Cropped and Full-Length

By far, trench coats & jackets are the styles I’ve clocked most often — cropped, knee-length and full-length, in both single- and double-breasted versions. The fit is a bit relaxed, and I’m seeing them most often worn open (though that may be a function of the mild weather). I spotted trenches frequently paired with relaxed trousers or jeans, and sneakers or flats — easy combinations for a day of walking. Tan, khaki, beige, and olive are the most common colors, though I also noticed navy, black, and the occasional red.

More cropped trenches: FRAME | SÉZANE | Lands’ End | Lauren Ralph Lauren (reversible!)
More long trenches/Macs: Lands’ End | SÉZANE | Avec les Filles | Barbour | J.Crew

Blazers

Most blazers I spotted had a relaxed fit without being oversized, often in small-scale plaid or houndstooth, or a textured fabric. They add a polished finish to casual looks that often include jeans.

More blazers: Avec les Filles | Evereve | SÉZANE | Talbots

Leather & Suede Jackets

Short suede and lightweight leather jackets, often in chore or bomber styles, are also a popular choice. I’m seeing far fewer fitted moto-style jackets than a few years ago; most cuts are now more relaxed.

More suede jackets: Madewell | Lauren Ralph Lauren | Quince
More leather jackets: Quince | LAMARQUE | Banana Republic

Lightweight Wool Jackets

I spied a few styles of double-faced wool jackets in varying lengths, from cropped to knee length, and the effect was always elegant.

More lightweight wool jackets: Quince | Theory | Maje | Talbots | Quince

Casual and Sporty Jackets

I wasn’t quick enough to capture these in situ, but did see several women wearing variations of these jacket styles.

Quilted Jackets & Compact Puffers

A little insulation helps on chilly fall mornings and I’ve spotted loads of lightweight and non-bulky quilted and puffer jackets. Most are hip length or a little longer.

Funnel-Neck Jackets

I’ve seen quite a few jackets similar to the one on the left, mostly on younger women or with more casual outfits. And while you don’t see a lot of athleisure here, I have noticed more sporty styles like the one on the right worn on the streets.

And I’ve seen a fair number of barn jackets too!

I’ll have lots more Paris style observations to come! In the meantime, I’ve gathered up some jackets that would be right at home this fall in Paris. Shop my Paris-Inspired fall jacket roundup.

    1. Hi Mary, gosh I didn’t make a note of it, but it would have been in the 6th, near rue du four. Loads of fantastic shops in that area!

    1. Hi Susan, I didn’t buy much for myself in Paris other than a scarf from Kutjen and a Vanessa Bruno bag. Very little in my colors this season!

  1. Great that you have almost no rain. I did a photo shoot with Marjolein today and it was raining when I arrived in The Hague. The forecast was terrible and what happened…? We were 5 minutes on our way and the sun came out. Bright sunshine all afternoon. Weather is still unpredictable. As for coats and jackets..I am fully stacked.

  2. Hrello Susan,

Great report from Paris. I have a curvy body, my style personality is a romantic classic. I often have difficulty finding jackets that fit my body, style personality.

Can you please recommend some styles for curvy bodies?

    Thanks,

    Irina

  3. Re: Barn jackets. When we moved last year, I discovered my old (we’re talking 30+ years) Eddie Bauer denim barn jacket that I thought was lost to. . . .a different fate (my kids had a way of rummaging through some of my more rugged clothes for costumes/theatricals). Anyway, at my age, it will outlast me – so glad they are fashionable again.

In other news you may find of interest, I also discovered that Talbot’s “Haven Well Within” apparel/accessories are available on Nordstrom online, although not the grey blazer you linked above.

  4. Reporting from Northern Spain where is was warm to begin, but eventually cooled down: the first thing I noticed when temperatures fell was that jean jackets came out with leather/pleather bombers following. We were mostly in small cities, out during the day with other retirees and students.
