A Comfortable Navy Jacket & a Few Sales Worth a Look
I’m still catching up with myself after three weeks away, but wanted to pop in and share a few things on my style radar. From a softly structured jacket in a very wearable shade of navy to some under-the-radar sales, here’s what caught my eye this week.
A Softly Structured Navy Jacket for Casual Outfits
Adding structure is one way to make casual outfits look finished and intentional. But “structure” doesn’t have to mean stiffness or sacrificing comfort. Design details like a collar or set-in-sleeves can add structure even when the piece itself is more relaxed. I’m a fan of Frank & Eileen sweatshirt jackets including this new “Rowan” style, which they kindly sent me to try.

My sizes: Jacket – XS, Top – Small, Jeans- 8 Petite

The 100% cotton knit fabric is a great weight for transitional seasons, or even winters in mild climates. There are several colors available, but I opted for the Classic Navy, which IMO is a universally wearable shade. It’s lighter than F&E’s “British Royal Navy,” but still nicely saturated. (My favorite Mini Belfast jacket is now also available in Classic Navy.)
And don’t forget accessories: here the belt, bag, and loafers all add polish and definition to the look.

Great jacket. You have so many really good jackets now. Well done.

Thanks so much Greetje!
The Rowan looks lovely on you but I agree with your original chosen favorite – the Mini Belfast seems even nicer. And the Belfast Trench also looks amazing. The terry material would be about as much of a jacket as I’d ever need where I live. Too bad they are a bit pricey… I’ll be waiting to see if there are amazing end-of-season sales on these coats…
Thanks for continuing to share great products, ideas, and advice.
Hi Susan – love this jacket. But I have questions – I had an Eileen Fisher “sweatshirt” blazer with the same unfinished edges – after one wear, it started looking like an old rag despite washing it carefully by hand.
Does this jacket have enough “loose structure” to prevent it looking like something grabbed out of the laundry bag?
Thanks for your blog – I always enjoy reading.
Hi Kristi, I have a couple of the Mini Belfast jackets that I wear constantly during the cooler months. They wash really well in my experience, and retain their shape and body.
Thanks for the info on current sales. Aquatalia boots are the best. Would like to see some variety in shapes and different occasion outfits in your photos.
The jacket looks very cute on you. The styling on the F&E website looked a bit frumpy but not in your pic.
As an aside – I thought you might get a kick out of this. Watching some random videos on youtube while recovering from the flu I came across one from Timeless Vintage where there were “then and now” photos of famous actresses and you appeared at 8 minutes in – as the now for actress Susan Blakely. Both of you are lovely “nows”! Funny how these AI generated videos must pick up images from the internet.
Thanks, Susan. That’s too funny about the video! People often want to spell my name with the extra “l” as in the actress’ name. I remember her well from the 70’s and ’80’s.
Hi, Susan, what do you think of the Mini Belfast in pine for a blue autumn? Vs the classic navy. Many thanks!
Hi Linda, I think both the Pine and Classic Navy would work for a Blue Autumn.
I must say you always get yourself together beautifully. Love your looks. Thanks for the info on the Rag and Bone sale. I need to get there and try those pants on.
